About the Jeugdfonds

The Youth Sports & Culture Fund enables children and young people from low-income families to participate in football, music lessons, gymnastics, street dance, judo, theater classes, or other sporting or creative activities. We cover the membership fees/tuition fees for these children and young people, and in some cases, supplies such as football kits or dance shoes.

Why are we needed?

The Netherlands is one of the richest countries in the world. Yet, hundreds of thousands of children and young people grow up in poverty (source: CBS, SCP and NibudChildren who can't participate don't get the opportunities their peers take for granted. Participating in sports or cultural activities helps a child develop optimally physically, mentally, and socially. This is important for the child's development and future, but also for the family and ultimately for society as a whole.

In 2024, the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture involved 86,426 children and young people.

Sam&

Sam& for all children exists to help all children and young people in the Netherlands from families facing financial difficulties participate with their peers. If a family can't afford a sports or cultural club, chances are they can't afford other things as well. For example, school supplies, a bicycle, a comfortable bed, or birthday celebrations. That's why we collaborate with other organizations to provide the best possible support to families facing financial difficulties.

Social Organizations in Sports (MOS)

The Social Organizations in Sports (MOSS) believes that equal opportunities for everyone should be a priority in sports and exercise policy and the sports and exercise sector. Within the MOS, several social organizations, each with their own domain and expertise, explicitly focus on disadvantaged and vulnerable target groups and encourage more people to become active. Together, we ensure that the sports sector has sufficient insight into the necessary interventions and practical solutions to enable everyone, regardless of gender, age, culture, disability, socioeconomic status, or background, to participate in sports and exercise.

Director Petra Bosman: "With this joining of forces, we are making sports and exercise accessible to people who are distanced from sports and exercise. Those who have difficulty participating due to poverty, illness, disability, background, or sexual orientation."

Frequently Asked Questions

Director

Petra Bosman

Petra Bosman is director of the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture: “There is a lot of inequality in the Netherlands, as was recently confirmed in a study by the Central Planning Bureau. To follows the CPB to live in 2024 nearly one million people below the poverty line and this has huge impact on hundreds of thousands of children and young people. Parents may be forced to cut back on their football club, gymnastics or dance lessons for their children. That makes our work only more relevant because the Youth Fund can keep sports and culture accessible and make them accessible for children.”
