Local contact person Jacco Peelen: “Every child should have the opportunity to develop through sports and culture.”

Every municipality affiliated with the Youth Fund has a local contact person. This person is the first point of contact for parents, intermediaries, sports clubs, cultural providers, and the municipality. We'd like to introduce these top performers to you through a few short questions. This time: Jacco Peelen.

Tell us something about your work?

Within the municipality of Barneveld, I am active as Coordinator of the Healthy Lifestyle Agreement. As coordinator, I play a connecting role between organizations in education, healthcare, sports, and welfare. The goal is to connect existing initiatives and strengthen collaboration. It's a challenge to take action based on the healthy lifestyle philosophy. The transformation from illness and care to health and behavior is the common thread, with a broad perspective on lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle touches all areas. The Youth Sports & Culture Fund aligns with the ambitions of the Healthy Lifestyle Agreement.

What do you do as a local contact person?

As the local point of contact, I ensure there are sufficient local intermediaries and that they remain informed about the fund's developments. I also work to raise awareness of the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture in the municipality of Barneveld.

Why are sports and culture so important for children?

Sports and culture strengthen local communities. They contribute to personal development and social cohesion. Every child should have the opportunity to participate in sports and culture as part of their personal development and healthy lifestyle.

What do you hope to achieve in your community with the use of the Youth Fund?

That every child has the same opportunities. That every child acquires skills that will serve them well in later life. It is crucial that the growing group of children and young people from families with lower disposable incomes can (continue to) participate.

What is your wish for the future?

That every child can participate in sports and/or cultural activities at their own level in a positive, safe, and inviting environment. A place where children are welcome and can develop.
