Father Klaas: “Emily beams when she's on the ice” 

Father Klaas is the sole caregiver for his two daughters. The youngest, Emily, plays ice hockey, and the eldest dances. The family went through a difficult period, a period during which Klaas didn't work because he wanted to be there for his daughters 100%. The family has now calmed down, and Klaas can focus on the future again. He sees the children blossoming thanks to their clubs. "Emily beams when she's on the ice."

Klaas's own world has also become bigger now that Emily is playing ice hockey.”I used to play ice hockey myself, and that passion is still there. Now that Emily is playing, my world has expanded again. I have a old love rediscovered, so to speakShe trains twice a week and regularly has to play matches herself. I always go along. We're going also go to competitions a lotIt's a very social club. It's great to share that passion. Emily is very enthusiastic and does well at the club. When she starts talking about ice hockey, she just won't stop. Emily: “I can stand up for myself better”

“On the open day I found ice hockey “It was immediately a lot of fun,” says Emily. "I could already skate and I played hockey so that helped. Then I did three trial lessons and I really wanted to do it. Ice hockey is fun because it's a team sport, you are together and you can pound a little. The team is mixedand i have made new friends. It's fun to do something together that you like.dt. I think I'll compete well I find it the most fun. A competition is exciting and goes fast, you must after fifteen minutes from group to switch.  

“I can stand up for myself better,” Emily answers when asked if she also learn other things at the club. “You have to to be quite strong. I don't really care whether we win or lose, that's just part of it. Emily gets her UNIS Flyers shirt out. ”You do need good gear, skates must sit comfortably. Under this shirt i am wearing body armorn, and further andllebow protectors and a helmet. It's a lot, but if it fits well, it's comfortable. In the summer we just continue training, then we do outside conditietraining."  

Does Emily dream of a career as an ice hockey player? "I'd really like to play in Canada. It's a real ice hockey country."
