Rotary Club Youth Festival a great success

Two performances, hundreds of children, packed houses, and plenty of open houses. Last Sunday, the Rotary Club Amstelveen celebrated its 50th anniversary with a sparkling Youth Music Festival at the Amstelveen Theatre. Newly appointed Alderman Frank Berkhout (Education, Youth Care, and Municipal Organization) and Children's Mayor Varvara Denisova hosted the opening. Presenter Tineke de Groot smoothly presented the two performances. A total of over 200 children performed in a variety of settings, ranging from vocals to instrumental pieces. Some performed solo, some as a group, or some as an ensemble. A unique and exciting afternoon awaits.

The closing ceremony had a wonderful surprise. The proceeds from this Rotary Club anniversary celebration amounted to €10,000 and will be donated to the Youth Sports and Culture Fund. Last year, the Amstelveen Sports Company began helping children (in both sports and culture). This additional support will allow even more children to be helped. It is hoped that the municipality of Amstelveen will join in, making this initiative a stable resource for children in Amstelveen who need it.

The Friends of the Amstelveen Music and Dance School Foundation supported the Rotary Club Amstelveen's initiative with a donation of €2,500, bringing the total amount to €12,500.

Amstelveen also has plenty of children who, for financial reasons, cannot participate in the wide range of sports and cultural activities on offer. These include music lessons, dance, theater, acting, singing, and painting. Applications can be submitted through an intermediary, such as a teacher or debt counselor. The North Holland Youth Fund for Sports and Culture processes applications, not only for cultural activities (the purpose of this festival), but also for sports.
