WE HERE Heerenveen and WE HERE Fryslân launched

The 3x3 City Heerenveen kickoff took place on Friday evening, May 10th, at Sportstad Heerenveen. The launch of the 3x3 City project also marked the start of the programs "WE HERE Heerenveen" and "WE HERE Fryslan."

In November 2018, the Dutch Basketball Association (NBB) approached Dyna'75, a basketball club in Heerenveen, to become one of 16 cities in the Netherlands with 3x3 City status. 3x3 City is part of the activation program for the 3x3 World Championships in Amsterdam in June 2019. 3x3 is a form of basketball (played three-on-three on a single basket on a half-court) that is rapidly gaining popularity and will be included in the Olympic program for the first time at the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Basketball club Dyna'75 got started right away, and thanks to the Dutch Basketball Association, the municipality of Heerenveen, the province of Friesland, and partners like the Youth Sports Fund, the project was completed last Friday.

In the presence of Alderman Zoetendal of the municipality of Heerenveen, the NBB, and Herma van Keulen, board member of the Youth Sports Fund, the partners signed the partnership signs, allowing the activities to begin immediately. Part of "WE HERE Heerenveen" is to generate a regular 3x3 basketball program for Dyna '75 members and all other interested Heerenveen residents. This will move to the Heerenveen basketball court, which will be located in Sportstad Buiten, during the summer. Clinics will also be offered for youth in education and low-income neighborhoods. This is being done in collaboration with Scoren voor gezondheid (Scoren for Health), the welfare organization Caleidoscoop, and the Youth Sports Fund Friesland. The partners are seeking collaboration with WE HERE Fryslân to promote 3x3 basketball in other Frisian cities and to launch a 3x3 basketball academy for everyone in the province of Friesland.
