Schools in Schiedam are committed to the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture
In collaboration with primary schools, the municipality of Schiedam, along with the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture and Stroomopwaarts, has launched a major campaign for parents with limited funds. The message? "No money for sports, culture, or swimming lessons? The Youth Fund will pay!" On Wednesday, September 22, Alderman for Sports Antoinette Laan launched the campaign at Het Startblok primary school by presenting a school package to principal Walter Konings.
Summer vacation is over, COVID-19 restrictions have been relaxed, and all sports and cultural clubs are open again. Children and young people are going back to school and sports clubs. It seems so normal to go to football, street dance, or another club. Yet, for many children, this isn't a given because their parents can't afford the costs. Children from low-income families should also be able to participate in sports and cultural activities. The Youth Fund for Sports & Culture pays the membership fees or tuition for these children's sports or cultural clubs.
School package
Not all low-income parents are aware of the opportunities offered by the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture. The municipality of Schiedam, Stroomopwaarts, and the Youth Fund want to change that. Therefore, every school will receive a package with communication materials to inform parents about the Youth Fund. Jan Waaijer, board member of the Youth Fund: "The package includes flyers for every child at school. This way, we hope to reach all parents in Vlaardingen in collaboration with the schools."
