Pijnacker-Nootdorp extends partnership with Youth Fund for Sports and Culture!
The Pijnacker-Nootdorp municipal executive recently decided to extend its partnership with the Youth Fund for Sports and Culture for three years. The partnership agreement was signed on December 20, 2023, by Alderman Marieke van Bijnen and Vice-Chairman of the South Holland Youth Fund Jan Waaijer during a lesson at the Belinda ballet studio at the CulturA & Zo theater.
The Youth Fund for Sports & Culture enables children and young people from low-income families to participate in sports and creative activities. For these children and young people, the Youth Fund pays their membership fees or tuition, and in some cases, supplies such as football kits or dance shoes. The Youth Fund is co-financed by the municipality through an annual contribution.
Why is the Youth Fund necessary?
The Netherlands is one of the richest countries in the world. Yet, over 272,000 children grow up in families living on a subsistence level—that's a staggering 1 in 11 children. Children who can't participate don't get the opportunities their peers take for granted. Participating in sports and culture helps a child develop optimally physically, mentally, and socially. This is important for the child's development and future, but also for the family and ultimately for society as a whole.
In Pijnacker-Nootdorp, more than 250 children are currently participating in an activity supported by the Youth Fund.
