Meeting of Hengelo-Borne multi-skilled workers: working together for equal opportunities.
On November 13, 2025, the Hengelo-Borne Youth Fund for Sports and Culture organized a meeting for seniors at Oyfo Hengelo. This was a time to reflect together, share knowledge, and explore how we can reach even more children growing up in families with limited financial resources.
Insight into figures and developments
Chair Ton Tammerveld and coordinator Tanja Diepenmaat opened the meeting with a presentation on current developments within the fund. They shared the latest figures for the municipalities of Hengelo and Borne.
These figures show that we are currently one in four children living in poverty manages to reachAn important step, but it also shows that there are still significant opportunities to support more families.
The attendees discussed how to further enhance the Youth Fund's visibility, both internally and locally. This included improving referrals, facilitating easy communication, and raising awareness within their own organizations.
Workshop 'Poverty and the Power of Conversation'
The second part of the afternoon was provided by Ben Boksebeld, researcher and senior lecturer in Social Work at Saxion.
In his workshop Poverty and the power of conversation He demonstrated the broad impact of poverty on families, young people, and their futures. Stress, limited financial security, and a lack of social capital can significantly impact daily choices and development.
Ben emphasized the importance of a personal, accessible conversation—an approach that helps professionals discover what a family truly needs. His insights resonated well with the practical experiences of the caregivers present.
Together we can reach more children
The meeting made clear that there is strong motivation to support more children in Hengelo and Borne. By strengthening collaboration between the board, staff, and local partners, even more children can participate in sports and cultural activities – without financial barriers.
