In a well-attended interactive informational meeting held on February 14, 2024, at the Kulturhus in Borne, members of the Hengelo-Borne Youth Fund for Sports and Culture gathered to discuss the crucial role they play in supporting children and young people. This meeting was a key moment for support workers, who are often the first link in connecting children from disadvantaged families with the opportunities offered by the fund. Support workers, such as teachers, youth care workers, and social workers, play a crucial role in registering children who could benefit from the fund's support. They are the ones who submit the applications so children can participate in activities like soccer, violin lessons, gymnastics, and more. During the panel discussion on poverty, led by expert Ben Boksebeld, it became clear once again how devastating poverty can be for a child and how valuable the Youth Fund is in such situations.
Donation of 2,205 euros by officials of the municipality of Hengelo, the check was presented by Alderman Jacqueline Freriksen.
During the meeting, Alderman Jacqueline Freriksen emphasized the importance of involving children in sports and cultural activities. She spoke of the positive impact these activities have on children's self-confidence, social skills, and happiness. The donation from Hengelo officials will help make these opportunities more accessible to even more children.
Ton Tammerveld, chairman of the Hengelo Borne Youth Fund, shared his enthusiasm and gratitude for the donation and emphasized how it contributes to reducing financial barriers for families in need. With the increasing demand from families financially impacted by circumstances like the coronavirus crisis, this support is essential.
Valuable ideas to improve engagement and communication.
This meeting also provided an opportunity to further inform the volunteers about the opportunities offered by the Youth Fund, such as funding membership fees, tuition, and supplies like sportswear and dance shoes. Volunteers were encouraged to continue their involvement and submit new applications, ensuring that no child misses the opportunity to grow and thrive through sports and culture. Creative brainstorming and painting sessions were held, and valuable ideas were proposed to improve engagement and communication.
