Brabant youth funds for sports and culture merged

Joining forces for more support for children in poverty

The Brabant youth funds for sports and culture are per Merged on January 1st. As the Brabant Youth Sports & Culture Fund, the fund currently operates in eighteen municipalities in Brabant. In these municipalities, children and young people growing up in low-income families can participate in sports or take art classes at the fund's expense.

One in eleven children in Brabant grows up in poverty. And even more young people in Brabant are currently experiencing difficulties making ends meet with their parents. The new fund makes it possible for them, too, to join a sports club or take arts and culture classes.

High numbers of applications

Last year, 2,451 children and young people in Brabant were able to participate in sports with the help of the Youth Fund. Applications for art lessons reached a record high: 1,087 children and young people took lessons at a music school or arts center, for example.

Riny van Rinsum, chair of the Brabant Youth Fund for Sport & Culture: “The Brabant funds have been working together for some time. By formalizing our partnership, we can collaborate even more efficiently and effectively, enabling even more children and young people to participate. Whether they want to play football, learn an instrument, swim, dance, box, or take theater lessons. In these times of skyrocketing inflation and rising prices for basic necessities, this is desperately needed.”

How does the Youth Fund work?

The Brabant Youth Fund for Sports and Culture pays the membership fees or tuition for children and young people aged 0 to 18 from families with insufficient funds for sports, arts, and culture. Applications for funding are submitted by, for example, a teacher, community sports coach, debt counselor, or neighborhood social team member. The fund's website lists the contact details of the intermediaries who can apply for funding on behalf of parents, per municipality. Parents will hear within three weeks whether their application has been approved and can then register their child(ren). The membership fees or tuition are paid directly to the club or instructor. www.jeugdfondssportencultuur.nl/brabant/
