Attendance requirements for children in the Swimming ABC

Before the summer recess begins, most swimming pools in Amsterdam conduct an inventory of swimming students for the new school year. The new compensation system The Youth Sports Fund Amsterdam (JFSA) has introduced a new diploma guarantee. The new diploma guarantee offers clarity and transparency for parents, but also requires the child's commitment and attendance. For this reason, JFSA has imposed the following conditions on the swimming allowance for children with A, B, and C diplomas with a diploma guarantee:

• For the A diploma the child must maximum 7x absent may be (with cancellation) otherwise, the A-diploma guarantee expires. The child may continue lessons, but in this case, the provider can charge the child's parents for the monthly swimming fees after 1.5 years.
• For the B diploma and the C diploma the child must maximum 3x absent may be (with cancellation) otherwise, the diploma guarantee for a B and/or C diploma expires. The child can then continue with swimming lessons after four months, but in this case, the provider can charge the child's parents for the monthly swimming fees after four months.
• For all diplomas applies if the child 3x absent without notification, the provider can cancel the child's schedule. The child's right to reimbursement for diploma swimming will then be forfeited.

In exceptional cases where children are absent for a longer period of time (e.g. due to illness or injury), we recommend that swimming pools deschedule children and allow them to start again later.

We assume that swimming providers will communicate these attendance rules to parents at the start of swimming lessons and will also remind them of them if the child is regularly absent to prevent early drop-out as much as possible. However, we intermediaries also ask for these rules when applying of a child already to mention.

Perhaps unnecessarily, but a useful reminder for some: toddler swimming, swimming skills, water polo and competitive swimming will also be reimbursed this year for a maximum of 300 euros per year.
