Study association VUGS takes action for the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture
The VUGS student association from Utrecht has come up with a fun campaign to raise money for the Utrecht Youth Sports & Culture Fund.
Study association VUGS
VUGS is a study association for social geography and urban planning students in Utrecht. The association organizes a variety of activities for and by members, through various committees. They also have a committee that raises money annually for a chosen charity. This committee is called the Donacie (Donority) and consists of 10 members from various age groups.
In action for charity
With the donations, they organize all sorts of activities to raise money for charity. For example, they've already held online bingo, sold and delivered roses on Valentine's Day, and organized a three-course dinner. Throughout the academic year, they also have an auction and a week called Impact Week, which focuses entirely on charity and the mental and physical well-being of their members. They started fundraising in October and will continue until June.
Why the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture?
Vice-Chair & External Affairs Commissioner Silke Heijma explains: “We chose the Youth Fund for Sports and Culture because we wanted to do something focused on mental and physical well-being. And if there's one thing that's important for your well-being, it's being able to exercise enough, pursue a fun hobby, and so on. We also wanted a local Utrecht-based organization or one with a branch in Utrecht. That's why we chose the Youth Fund.”
How is the promotion progressing (current status)?
So far, the campaign is going well. The activities are fun and have a high turnout (even during times of stricter COVID-19 restrictions). They've already raised a nice €230.70 (this doesn't include major activities like the dinner and the auction). This is expected to increase considerably towards the summer; in previous years, the auction has often raised a few hundred euros more.
