On May 23, Natasha Mohamed Hoesein, Alderman for Poverty Reduction, Debt Counseling, and Language, visited the Delfshaven district to discuss our working methods.
We discussed the indispensable role of our intermediaries (the volunteer professionals) who maintain contact with families in the field, and the collaboration with the 450 affiliated sports and cultural clubs in the region.
We concluded the day at Got2Groove DanceCentre (a provider of the Youth Fund) with an energetic, fun dance class for eight young children. At this location, they forge friendships, learn to work together, and practice for a real performance at the Hofplein Youth Theatre. (This is what we do it for!)
With thanks to super intermediary Fatma Yilmaz (Team Toekomst), Francis Neslo of Got2Groove and Community Center Pier80.
At the start of the new sports and cultural season, the national campaign 'Choose a Club' launched. The aim of the campaign is to let parents know that they can www.kieseenclub.nl can easily apply for help with paying for their child's sports or cultural club.
The number of applications from families who, due to poverty, cannot afford membership fees or tuition for a sports or cultural club has risen significantly compared to last year (20%). This demonstrates a growing need for assistance with children's access to sports and cultural activities.
With this campaign, we're once again drawing attention to this problem. Unfortunately, it's more necessary than ever.
The NOS Jeugdjournaal and NOS Journaal were in Rotterdam today at the Bavokring primary school and made a nice item about it. Watch the broadcast of the NOS Jeugdjournaal here.
On June 14, 21, and 28, it's finally happening. Dozens of children can try out cultural and sports activities at the Cruyff Court in Schiemond, Rotterdam. There are many different activities, including freerunning, painting, dancing, and hockey. We organize these activities in close collaboration with local providers. This way, children and young people can easily get acquainted with a sport or activity. If they really enjoy it, they can apply to the Youth Fund to become a member of that club.
Workshops are for children and young people up to 18 years old. Participation is free, and there's no registration required. So come along and join in! Each event starts at 1:00 PM.
