Rotary Club Houten Castellum organized its first rubber duck race on Sunday, May 25th. The event took place at the Rietplas lake in Houten. Proceeds from the race went to two charities: the Houten Youth Foundation, which supports disadvantaged youth, and the Youth Fund for Sports and Culture, which encourages young people to participate in sports and culture and provides financial support where needed.

Everyone could buy a rubber duck and receive a corresponding lottery number. After Mayor Karen Heerschop fired the starting shot, several thousand ducks floated to the finish line. The water was kept afloat by the Youth Fire Brigade and the Volunteer Rescue Brigade. The ducks that finished first won a prize. There were no fewer than 40 prizes to be won. The prizes were provided by various sponsors from Houten.

It was a festive afternoon for all ages. At the end of the race, Paul van der Rijt of Rotary Club Houten presented a check. The check—representing a whopping €8,500—was gratefully accepted by Lotte Volz, board member of the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture. "We will ensure the money is spent wisely. The Youth Fund supports children from throughout the province of Utrecht, but the proceeds from this rubber duck race will only benefit the children of the municipality of Houten."

Thanks to the contribution of Rotary Club Houten Castellum, even more children in Houten can participate in sports and culture.

Your duties

As part of the Youth Fund back-office team, you'll play a crucial role in supporting our mission! You'll handle incoming applications and requests and ensure they are processed quickly. You'll review and approve invoices, and ensure the intermediary network and system remain up-to-date.

Your position within the team

Along with 10 direct colleagues in the Funds team, you'll be working for the Youth Sports and Culture Fund. This fund helps children up to 18 years old enjoy sports and culture. Collaborate with passionate colleagues across the country and make a difference!

Your talents

We're looking for a go-getter who wants to make a social impact with us. You'll have frequent contact with intermediaries, associations, and colleagues. It's important that you can handle pressure well: applications must be processed quickly. You'll work accurately, be customer-focused, and demonstrate initiative. A minimum of a vocational (MBO) degree and experience with administrative tasks, telephone customer service, and Windows applications are required. In short, you're an administrative all-rounder with a customer-focused approach.

Your regional office: Vianen

You'll be working at our location in Vianen. This is where the provincial sports organization Team Sportservice Province of Utrecht is based, with approximately 55 employees. The Youth Fund for Sports & Culture North Holland and Utrecht manages the administration and coordination through Team Sportservice. Our colleagues implement sports policy and various provincial projects related to sports, exercise, and health in several municipalities. This is also where our Youth Fund back office operates.

If we both believe there's a good fit, we'd love to welcome you as a new team member. You'll start with a one-year contract starting June 1st (earlier is also possible) for 16-24 hours per week. The hours can be spread out across the working days as desired. If you prove suitable, an extension is possible. In terms of employment conditions, you'll fall under the Collective Labor Agreement for the Sports Sector, scale 4 (minimum €2,440 and maximum €2,700) based on a 38-hour workweek. The Groningen Youth Fund for Sports and Culture enables children and young people from low-income families to participate in sports and cultural activities. We cover the membership fees/tuition and any necessary equipment. Participating in sports and cultural activities helps children develop optimally physically, mentally, socially, and creatively. This is important for the child's development and future, but also for the family and ultimately for society as a whole. By 2024, we will have enabled nearly 4,000 children and young people to participate in sports and cultural activities.

Last Sunday, we invited our contacts from municipalities and the province to a wonderful and inspiring program in collaboration with Nova Tech Lycurgus.

A meeting where we updated aldermen and policy officers on developments at the Youth Fund, followed by an interesting and highly energetic lecture by Prof. Erik Scherder. He explained why exercise and music are so incredibly important and essential for brain development.

An afternoon that also provided great visibility for the Youth Fund, both on and off the field. Player Stijn van Schie shared on social media why sports (and volleyball in particular) are so important and what they've brought him. And where over 300 children from the municipalities of Eemsdelta, Veendam, Pekela, and Westerwolde were invited by Lycurgus and the Youth Fund to enjoy a top-notch match in a wonderful atmosphere. And all the children were even allowed onto the field to dance during the break!

We ended the afternoon with a great match and victory for Lycurgus, the number 1 in the premier league, over Numidia VC Limax.

Tennisclub L.T.C. Vleuten De Meern zamelen ieder jaar geld in voor goede doelen. Dit doen zij door de organisatie van toernooien en evenementen. Hiervan doneren ze bijvoorbeeld de inschrijfgelden, inkomsten van verkochte loten en individuele bijdragen. De commissies van de club maakte in november de balans op. Door hen werd het Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur Utrecht gekozen als goed doel! 

Tijdens de Algemene Ledenvergadering op vrijdag 29 november werd een cheque van € 2000,- overhandigd door Maurits ten Kate, voorzitter L.T.C. Vleuten De Meern! Lotte Volz, bestuurslid van Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur Utrecht, nam de cheque in ontvangst. Het Jeugdfonds is ontzettend blij met het enthousiasme en de inzet van L.T.C. Vleuten de Meern!

De tennisclub wil in 2025 wederom verschillende activiteiten organiseren. Geld inzamelen om via het Jeugdfonds de kansengelijkheid voor kinderen in Utrecht vergroten. Andere goede doelen waar L.T.C. Vleuten De Meern geld voor inzamelde zijn de Speelgoedbank en de Voedselbank Leidsche Rijn.

Ballet vind ik echt heel leuk!

In deze zevende video zien we Viviana, 12 jaar. Zij zit op ballet bij Balletschool Helen Wilson in Houten. “Ik volg hier al ongeveer vijf jaar les op deze school. Ik doe ballet, jazz, tap en modern. Klassiek ballet is best precies en zo. Ja, ik vind dat echt heel leuk! Dansen is een hele leuke manier om je energie te uiten. Choose Your Art Houten is a series of short videos commissioned by the Utrecht Youth Fund for Sports & Culture and in collaboration with the Houten Youth Pass for Sports & Culture and the Shine Houten Foundation. The videos aim to get more children and young people excited about art, with the message that tuition doesn't have to be an obstacle. This video was created by Sjoerd Derine.

A bicycle for every child

Maar liefst 7.500 euro is er voor het Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur Gelderland opgehaald door Stichting Deel en Geef Door. Met de opbrengst wordt in samenwerking met de gemeente Rheden deze sportzomer de actie: Voor iedereen een fiets opgezet. Een kind uit de gemeente Rheden, waarvan ouders/verzorgers onvoldoende financiële mogelijkheden hebben, kan een aanvraag doen bij het Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur voor een gratis fiets. Dankbaar

Het Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur Gelderland is enorm dankbaar voor het prachtige bedrag dat is opgehaald door de stichting Geef en Deel Door. Helaas is een eigen fiets niet vanzelfsprekend voor ieder kind. Niet elke ouder kan zich een fiets veroorloven voor zijn of haar kind. Een fiets hebben, is noodzakelijk om mee te kunnen doen, om naar je vriendjes of vriendinnetjes te kunnen fietsen of naar je sportclub. Met deze geweldige opbrengst kunnen we in samenwerking met de gemeente Rheden straks heel veel kinderen blij maken. Zeker in deze tijd, met na de coronacrisis nu ook de inflatie hebben steeds meer kinderen onze hulp nodig. En die hulp bieden wij graag!

Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur: laat alle kinderen mee doen!

Het Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur maakt het mogelijk dat kinderen tussen de 0 en 18 jaar uit financieel minder draagkrachtige gezinnen kunnen sporten bij een vereniging of een culturele activiteiten kunnen doen, bijvoorbeeld muziekles, theateractiviteiten of schilderen. Dat is belangrijk voor de persoonlijke ontwikkeling van kinderen. Ze leren samenwerken, merken waar ze goed in zijn waardoor het zelfvertrouwen groter wordt en het concentratievermogen toeneemt.

Het project ‘Nog meer kinderen een zwemdiploma!’ Noord-Holland is afgerond. Dankzij vele sponsoren konden wij in 2023 en begin 2024 de zwemlessen betalen als er thuis niet genoeg geld is. De reguliere zwemlessen, maar juist óók de zwemlessen met wat extra aandacht voor bijvoorbeeld kinderen met zwemangst of een beperking. 

In het waterrijke Nederland is het ontzettend belangrijk dat ieder kind op zwemles kan en veilig leert zwemmen. In 2023 hebben wij 1.042 kinderen kunnen helpen om op zwemles te gaan.

Dankzij ons project ‘Nog meer kinderen een zwemdiploma’ hebben wij in totaal voor 323 kinderen maatwerk kunnen bieden in provincie Noord-Holland. Denk hierbij aan kinderen met een beperking, kinderen met waterangst of bijvoorbeeld kinderen met een taalbarrière. Vaak zijn voor deze kinderen duurdere trajecten nodig om hun zwemles te kunnen behalen, die niet gedekt worden vanuit gemeentelijke subsidies.

The "Even more children get a swimming diploma!" project in Utrecht has been completed. Thanks to many sponsors, we were able to pay for swimming lessons in 2023 and early 2024 when there wasn't enough money at home. This included regular swimming lessons, but also lessons with extra attention for children with a fear of swimming or a disability, for example. 

In the Netherlands, a country rich in water, it's crucial that every child has access to swimming lessons and learns to swim safely. In 2023, we helped 1,066 children in the province of Utrecht take swimming lessons.

Thanks to our "Even More Children Get a Swimming Diploma" project, we've been able to offer customized services to 121 children in the province of Utrecht. These include children with disabilities, those with a fear of water, or those with language barriers. These children often require more expensive programs to obtain their swimming lessons, which are not covered by municipal subsidies.

In addition, after obtaining their swimming diploma, a child received a 10-entry card. This allowed the child to continue swimming with family and friends.

Jeugdfonds Hengelo Borne maakt kinderen opvanglocatie Hengelo blij met 120 knikkerbanen.

Goed Nieuws uit Hengelo! Marco Rosema, (foto rechts) bestuurslid van het Jeugdfonds Sport & Cultuur Hengelo Borne, schenkt namens het fonds 120 knikkerbanen aan de kinderen van de gemeentelijke opvang in Hengelo. Frits Vink (foto links), coördinator van de gemeentelijke opvang, heeft de knikkerbanen in ontvangst genomen en gaat de kinderen van de opvang blij maken.

“Wij zijn dankbaar dat we een verschil kunnen maken in de levens van jongeren door sport en cultuur toegankelijker te maken”, aldus Marco Rosema.
