Roos van Dalen (Up and Down dance school): "The Youth Fund opens doors to the dance floor"

“Dancing is what I love most”

Three years ago, Roos started with a small group of enthusiastic dancers. Up and Down has since grown into a vibrant dance school with over 100 students. In addition to regular classes, Roos also provides after-school dance clinics at local elementary schools. "Dancing should be accessible to everyone, and fun is always our priority."

Collaboration with the Youth Fund

At Up and Down, several students are actively involved through the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture. New families are always encouraged to see if they qualify for a grant. "It's so valuable to see that money doesn't have to be a barrier. Thanks to the Youth Fund, every child can participate."

Culture enriches children

Dancing isn't just about movement; it's also about learning, discovering, and connecting. Roos emphasizes how art and culture contribute to children's development. "Dance teaches children who they are, but also about understanding other cultures. Afro dance, urban dance, hip-hop—it brings the world together on the dance floor."

Small and big moments of happiness

Every day, Roos sees how special dancing can be. Students growing, encouraging each other, and forming a close-knit community. "Our dance school feels like a family. The best part is seeing how children strengthen each other—not just as dancers, but also as individuals."

Tips for other providers

Roos has a clear message for other sports and cultural providers: "Talk to parents about the Youth Fund. Not everyone knows about it, and by exploring opportunities together, more children can participate."

A wish for the future

Roos hopes that every child has the opportunity to participate in a sport or cultural activity that truly suits them. For her own dance school, her wish is simple but powerful: "That we can continue to dance together happily for many years to come."
