Katty takes swimming lessons at the same time as her daughters

Katty moved from Peru to the Netherlands almost 13 years ago. Katty is 28 and the mother of two daughters: Nina (7) and Rosa (5). Nina and Rosa both take swimming lessons through the Youth Fund. Tuesday afternoons are special moments for the trio. Every Tuesday, Katty, Nina, and Rosa swim in consecutive lessons at the Basalt swimming pool in Delft. They do this at the "de Toekomst" swimming school. In Peru, Katty never had swimming lessons like her daughters in the Netherlands, so she decided to follow their example and pursue her A diploma.

For the children

Katty works as a healthcare assistant and is passionate about helping others. When her daughter Nina started swimming lessons, she paid for them herself, but when her other daughter Rosa also started swimming, she soon found it harder to afford them. An acquaintance told her about the Youth Fund, and through an intermediary, she found out about it.

"It might take some courage to apply for something like this, but you shouldn't be ashamed. It's good for your children." Katty hopes that by sharing her story, she can inspire single parents or families who are less fortunate. Katty expresses her gratitude. "Ultimately, it's about your children's development." Her two daughters can't wait to try out other sports after earning their swimming diplomas with the help of the Youth Fund.

Looking ahead

Nina is very happy during her swimming lessons and admits she still needs a bit of practice before she gets her A diploma. After that, Nina wants to do gymnastics. "It's just in my blood; my grandma used to be a gymnastics champion." She can't wait to take a trial lesson. Rosa wants to take taekwondo after she gets her diploma. "I think taekwondo will be a great way to release all her energy. I also think the lessons and the sport teach you how to control your body," says Katty.

Very nice swimming pool with lots of attention

Katty is thrilled with De Toekomst swimming school and the Basalt swimming pool in Delft. She says it's important to her that she can join her daughters whenever they want to swim. They can now also take care of themselves if necessary. Now there's just one question: Who will be the first to get their swimming diploma? Katty has no doubts: "Nina will be the first to get her A diploma!"

Swimming lessons through the Youth Fund

The Youth Fund is committed to enabling children from low-income families to participate in sports, cultural activities, and swimming lessons. Applying is easy through an intermediary. An intermediary is an intermediary familiar with a family's situation. This can be a teacher, community sports coach, or professional counselor. The Youth Fund pays the membership fee directly to the sports or cultural club, and in some cases, also pays for the necessary equipment.
