Donna Bosland: Make your sport choice with 'Taste your sport'!

As an ambassador for sports and exercise, I connect children, schools, parents, sports clubs, and the municipality through "Taste Your Sport." A good sport choice is the foundation for a lifetime of exercise. Thanks to the partnership with the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture, we've come full circle, and we can truly introduce all children in Almere to sports and help them enjoy them.

For children, sports aren't just a way to get some exercise and stay active, but also a way to develop social skills. Playing sports teaches them, for example, to wait their turn, to cooperate, and to learn what it means to belong to a group. It also helps them build self-confidence. They might struggle in school, but be a fantastic attacker in soccer. Children who play sports or get plenty of exercise are also mentally fit. They're better at solving and achieving goals.

Taste your sport

If children are looking for a new sport and aren't sure which one yet, they can try out three sports at a club with "Try Your Sport." When registering, the child chooses three sports and takes two free trial lessons per sport at a club in Almere. The only thing that matters to me is that they have fun trying them out. What they choose later doesn't matter to me. Once they've found the sport that suits them, they can sign up for the club!

Sports choice

When children choose a good sport, they stay in a club longer. This lays the foundation for a good sport choice and a lifelong commitment to exercise. The child's enjoyment should be the priority.

Where necessary, I try to get children involved in sports with the support of the Almere Youth Sports & Culture Fund. It shouldn't matter whether your parents have a lot or a little money, or where you come from. I believe every child has the right to participate in sports. Whether you're rich or poor shouldn't matter.
