Successful Try-out Sports Festival in Kaatsheuvel
Around 175 children enjoyed a sporty afternoon on Wednesday, June 18th, at the Try-out Sports Festival in Kaatsheuvel. Thanks to a wide range of activities – from hockey and judo to kickboxing and dance – they easily became acquainted with local sports and cultural clubs.
Various providers where children could take lessons presented themselves. Organizations like the Municipal Health Service (GGD), the Loop op Zand Neighborhood Families (Buurtgezinnen), and the youth organization Rnewt also presented themselves. Neighborhood sports coaches from the Beweegburo (Movement Office) were present to tell children and parents about the Brabant Youth Fund for Sports & Culture. According to Silvano van Bijlen, a neighborhood sports coach at the Beweegburo and Meerkracht (More Power) at the Youth Fund, thirty children already signed up for trial lessons at the clubs and associations during the festival. Silvano: "For children for whom money is a barrier to participating in sports, we've been able to remove that barrier thanks to the Youth Fund. That's something to be proud of! Every child who can participate in sports develops in many ways."
The Power of a More Power
Silvano is one of the active Meerkrachten (More Forces) in the municipality of Loon op Zand. "The biggest gain we've made from organizing the festival is that I've been in contact with all the participating organizations. I've been able to talk about the Youth Fund and what a Meerkracht is and does. Soon, I'll be visiting several clubs and associations to explain what the Youth Fund can do for children and young people."
Loop op Zand is a JOGG municipality
Alderman Cors Zijlmans opened the festival to highlight the fact that the municipality of Loon op Zand has been a JOGG municipality since this year. JOGG (Youth at a Healthy Weight) is a network of municipalities, social organizations, and businesses. They collaborate on a well-founded, integrated methodology to improve the physical and social environment of children and young people. This helps young people grow into a healthy generation.
