Jan van Erve joins the board of the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture Friesland

As of October 1st, we welcome Jan van Erve as a new board member of the Youth Sports & Culture Fund. He succeeds Wytze Visser, making the board once again complete – and full of fresh energy!

Jan (born 1967) was described in a previous interview in Groot Sneek as a true "spider in the web" in the Frisian sports and cultural world. And we couldn't agree more! The board is thrilled that Jan is joining us.

We asked Jan a few short questions about his decision to become a board member at the Youth Fund and his motivation for helping children and young people participate in sports and culture.

1: What appealed to you about the mission of the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture Friesland, and why do you feel connected to our work?

I'm moved and inspired by the fund's commitment to giving all children and young people the opportunity to participate. Sports and culture form the foundation for personal development, making friends, and feeling at home in a community. From my work in sports and culture, I know the importance of creating connections, and that aligns seamlessly with the fund's mission.

2: Why do you think it is important to commit yourself to children and young people who might otherwise not be able to participate?

I believe every child deserves equal opportunities and possibilities. If you can't participate due to circumstances, you're missing out on more than just a practice session or rehearsal; you're missing out on a piece of your future. I want to use my experience in sports and cultural sponsorship to ensure that as many children and young people as possible in Friesland experience the value of participation.

3: Looking ahead five years, what do you hope to have achieved for the fund and the children we help?

In five years, I hope we'll have reached even more children and that the fund will be a natural partner for parents, schools, sports clubs, and cultural organizations in Friesland. And that the fund will be known as a safety net, ensuring no child is left behind. I'd love to contribute to that.
