Debate evening Child Poverty
On Friday, February 18th, there will be a debate evening on child poverty at the De Helftheuvel social-cultural center. Time: 7:30 PM to 10:00 PM. Doors open: 7:00 PM. This event is in conjunction with the municipal elections in 's-Hertogenbosch on March 16th. The evening is organized by the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture 's-Hertogenbosch-Vught and Leergeld Den Bosch.
In our municipality, 2,700 children (under 18) are growing up in families with low disposable incomes. As a result, children are sometimes unable to join sports clubs, take cultural classes, or simply participate in educational activities. These children miss out on all sorts of experiences that their peers take for granted.
During the debate evening, politicians from the nine largest parties in the Den Bosch council will debate
with each other about statements related to the causes and solutions of child poverty. The politicians are: Wendy de Groot (VVD), Marieve Craste (D66), Wies Korver (GroenLinks), Marianne van der Sloot (CDA), Johan Kouwenberg (Rosmalens Belang), Cecile Visscher (SP), Judith Hendrickx (De Den Bosch Groenen), Pieter Paul Slikker (PvdA), and Monique Parijs (Bosch Belang).
Before the debates, politicians and visitors will be informed about child poverty. There will be some personal stories and a performance of "Hats on – Hats off." There will also be a dance performance by young people from Dance Centre Extreme. The evening will conclude with a film about Wouter van der Steen, goalkeeper and captain of FC Den Bosch. He will explain why he is committed to creating opportunities for all children.
The evening will be moderated by Huub van Mackelenbergh. The event will be filmed and broadcast in various formats by DTV Nieuws Den Bosch.
Anyone wishing to attend the debate live can register by emailing coordinator@leergelddenbosch.nl, providing their name, email address, and (if applicable) the organization. Registering as a visitor means agreeing to recordings. The hospitality industry's COVID-19 restrictions apply. Due to COVID-19, the number of attendees is limited to 65.
