World record 24-hour skating
What an incredible achievement by Jochem Kerssies! On March 21st and 22nd, this Groningen student broke the world record for 24-hour speed skating by covering 680 km on the ice rink in Kardinge.
"As a child, sports were the perfect way for me to push my boundaries and have a blast. It wasn't just fun, it also made me physically and mentally stronger," says Jochem. Because sports unfortunately aren't a given for every child, Jochem chose the Groningen Youth Sports and Culture Fund as one of the two charities he supported during his record attempt.
After the event on Saturday evening, youth ambassador Milan, representing Spieren voor Spieren, and coordinator Martina, representing the Groningen Youth Sports & Culture Fund, both received a check for no less than €6,650 per organization.
