Hockey player Lars Balk is an ambassador for the Utrecht Youth Sports & Culture Fund! His love of sports began with tennis and hockey. However, when he had to make a choice at age 12, the team sport trumped the individual nature of tennis. He finally chose hockey. A decision the midfielder/defender has never regretted. He now plays for Kampong's first team and is a member of Team NL.
“I want every child to experience that sense of community!”
The sense of camaraderie that comes with playing a team sport is a key reason for him to become an ambassador. "Enjoying sports is so important; I want every child to experience it," says Lars. "The energy, the satisfaction, and especially the fun. Having fun with your friends before, during, and after training and matches. It's simply amazing! If I can help all children experience that, I'm more than happy!" Despite his busy schedule with training for both teams and work-related activities, he's happy to make time for the Youth Fund. "It's no big deal if I can make those children happy. There are so many days in a year, and they have it much harder than I do."
