Councillor speaks

Marieke van Bijnen: Unfortunately, joining a sports club or participating in a cultural activity isn't a given for all children. As a municipality, we believe it's important that our residents can participate. To ensure this remains possible for children from low-income families, we've extended our partnership with the Youth Fund for Sports and Culture. We're also incredibly appreciative of the efforts of all the intermediaries, particularly those in education, healthcare, and social organizations. Thanks in part to their work, many children from this target group find their way to the Youth Fund to participate in sports or cultural activities.

Participation in the Youth Fund for Sports & Culture

In 2019, 226 children benefited from the Youth Fund. Of these 226, 211 children were able to participate in sports. Fifteen children participated in cultural activities. In 2020, despite the coronavirus crisis, 203 children still used the fund. 177 were able to participate in sports, and 26 children participated in cultural activities.
